Berlin Design
I was very excited when I found out about the Bauhaus Design Museum
in Berlin. But when I got there it was not as great as I had thought
it might be. The building itself was great and inside there was
a gift shop full of so many things that I want. But the current
exhibition wasn't so great. The museum is the home to a 1970 reconstruction
of László Moholy Nagys Lignt-space
modulator which was originally built between 1922-30 of chrome
plated steel, aluminum, glass, acrylic glass, wood. You can push
a button and watch the sculpture gyrate. The museum also had interesting
models of the original pre-nazi model of the Bauhaus building
in Dessau from 1925.
Later that night I was exploring OrangianStrasse (known for its
modern retail stores, fashionable hole-in-the-wall
& posh restaurants, artists, bomb scarred buildings, and prostitutes)
and began talking to three people that were outside of a concept
house. They were headed to a party and asked if Id like
to join. I accepted and we walked down a slightly marked ally
and then up some narrow crowded stairs to this underground
modern clothing, music, and bookstore full of people. [bookshop/disco/bar] [outside] At the back of the bookstore we walked into another room where
there was a full bar, [sittin'
'n' drinkin'] a random assortment of occupied couches and
chairs on the floor and an art exhibition on the wall. We checked
out the exhibition of decent photos and mediocre paintings. We
noticed that the music was coming from a back room with a swarming
dance floor. We joined the crowd and the sweet house beats laid
down by a really good DJ who kept the mob going. We stopped for
a drink and were surprised when the bartender asked to see our
invitation. Apparently it was a private party this night so we
were asked to leave. Bummer
We were having such good time.
