Follow-up tour
Paul, Luis, & I met up with Amy, whom we had met on Brian's
tour yestersday, to explore some of the things that we had seen
on the tour.
We mainly toured the Checkpoint Charlie Museum [Outside
Checkpoint Charlie W/Luis and Paul & close-up] and The Topography
of Terror .
Paul and Luis had to take off catch their train but Amy and I
followed our noses to some really good Chinese food in south Mitte.
On the way back to the hostel we passed a VW dealer with a [concept
vw] admired east Berlin's [TV
tower] .
Amy then took the U-bahn to her hostel, as she was leaving the
next day, and I wandered around East-Mitte's Oranienburger Str.
and it's hip scene of restaurants, art galeries, beer gardens,
and the Tacheles.
The Tacheles was originally a premiere shopping arcade at the
turn of the 20th century, but since then it has also been an AEG
exibition hall and a Nazi broadcasting center. Now it's bomb-ridden
concrete skeleton which is covered in grafitti is home to squatters
who have converted the space into art studio/galeries, a cinema,
and a beer garden.
The best part about traveling is that you meet so many new people
each day.
