2001.12.10 :: Blindenmarkt, Austria

the Rechenmachers of Austria

Now that I'll be staying for a while I'd like to introduce my relatives. First my immediate family:

Stephan, 11,[1] [2] [3] [4] loves riding his scooter that he and his dad fixed up. He enjoys anything edible. But his real passion is fishing. He has everything that a fisher could ever need to catch any kind of fish except a boat.

Lisa, 13, [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] is the resident teenager who is alternates between getting on the nerves of her family members, impressing them with the knowledge she gains at Melk Gymnasium, and SMSing her friends on her mobile phone.

Annalis and Sep (Josef) are a very happy couple. She is a cleaning specialist for a large furniture manufacturer and he's a nurse in a mental hospital. They're a great duo when it comes to parenting. They support their children's interests and needs, are good examples, provide good experiences, and support their traditional Austrian culture. And when they are forced to discipline, they always get the message across and finish it off with some humor. There's always plenty of laughter in the house.

Hilda Rechenmacher [1] [2] [3] , more commonly known as "Oma" or "der Chef," is "grandma." She's the boss. She proudly shares the [cooking] and cleaning with Annalis. A good deal of her time is spent at church; either at mass or helping with some project. It was good that she only knew three words of English, because when we were alone and had to communicate I was really pressed to use the German I've been learning. She also always has time to make you a snack or hot chocolate.

Gina [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] the resident Dalmatian is the third child in the family. She loves to run, chase anything, and eat. During the winter we spent hours throwing her snowballs that she would devour till she puked if we hadn't tired of the game. I gave her a small heart-shaped balloon one night that she really wanted to sink her teeth into. But, because it was a little too big for her mouth, the balloon would without fail, bounce back up into the air. Many nights were spent watching her jump till she got tired. She also like so sit on people.

The Austrian farmhouse also has a cat, 8 hens, two turtles, and between 3-9 [pigs] depending upon current demand...

Here's a little series of "family portraits." I couldn't pick one, because there's no clear "best." [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

The rest of the family isn't too far away either. Hilda's other three sons are Heinrik, Ernst, and Kurt. [Ernst & Hellen] and [Kurt & Gerti] live next to each other down the street from Sep. [Heinrik & Maryanne] lives in the next village. All stop by often for many things.

More family photo fun: [Ilse & I] [me in Kurts official fireman's uniform] [Gina likes to sit on people's laps] [Lisa & Ulrik] [easter... ...easter] [hands on dog] [she needs a lot of love]

Heinz, Kurt, and Ernst Rechenmacher are my third cousins. I have been researching the Rechenmacher Family. A few years ago Sister De Lourdes (Anna Rechenmacher) of Illinois contacted me to research my branch of the family and she shared with me the other branches including the branch that still lives in Austria. Nice to see a picture of the family. I believe Sister DeLourdes visited Blindenmarkt some years ago.
