Pompidu to Eiffel

Centré de Pompidu had a lot of nice art. After seeing so much art in Paris the only pieces that stand out are those that are unique or very different. [BMW concept full suspension skateboard] [2] [installation of white rocks with built-in speakers emitting moody sounds. I was going to see the eiffel tower one night with Tony and Alfred. But I lost them when I went back to get my leatherman. A little depressed, I headed to the tower alone.

After I got on the metro, I realized that there weren't any metro stops close to the tower. So I picked one that that would give me a wald through a new part of town.

Walking through any part of Paris can be creepy at night because all the stores close pull down their security doors. No doubt that the streets are hopping with life and full of good energy during the day but I had my leatherman on guard in my pocket as I walked through the now sketchy looking neighborhoods.

I wanted to go to the top of the tower, but had to settle for the second platform. I stayed till the tower closed, admiring Paris from one of the highest spots in the city. [north] [southeast]

Since I had missed the last metro of the night, the metro closes between midnight and 1AM depending upon where you are, and because I had been walking around the city all day, I decided that it was a good time to take a taxi.

I found a taxi stand with quite a line and decided to wait and enjoy the fact that I was in Paris. I approached two young guys and found out that they were going past my stop. They asked if I would like to join them and offered me a Coke. As they told me of the history of the Eiffel tower, a few couples in the taxi line went ahead of us. Confused, I asked them if they were planning on staying here for awhile. "Yes," they said, "we want to have a joint with you." And the rest of the night with them was great.
